What is VKL
The Village at Kentlands & Lakelands is an organization founded on the belief that older adults want to remain independent and age with confidence — embracing a healthy, active, and meaningful life. We provide opportunities to stay connected, engaged, and supported by neighbors who care. Our model follows the example of Beacon Hill Village, established in the early 1990s by residents who wanted to continue living in the homes and community they loved as they grew older.
Why is VKL so important?
Many people assume that older adults have health or mobility challenges. However, many individuals who are retired — or nearing retirement — are active, energetic, and eager to live with purpose. To nurture that vitality, our Village offers a wide variety of programs, events, and social clubs designed to inspire and connect. Examples include engaging presentations on relevant topics, theater outings, happy hours, and musical performances, to name just a few.
At the same time, some older adults need extra help to live independently. To support them, VKL provides a range of practical services — such as transportation, grocery shopping assistance, light household chores, and other neighborly support — that make it easier to remain at home and engaged in the community.
