What is this?
A Presentation of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston
Sponsored by Friendship Hights Neighbors Network in collaboration with Little Falls Village. Join us on a journey to explore the aesthetics of the Native American cultures of the Southwest through ceramics, textiles, Kachina figures, and paintings. Participants will gain an understanding of the artifacts and their symbolism in shapes, designs and colors that play an important role in the sacred and material functionality of the objects/art works.
The session will conclude with an art activity involving drawing and coloring a jar/pot inspired by “Olla” pottery of the Zuni peoples. The materials required are paper, pencil, coloring pencils (or any coloring medium available to the participant). Optional-extra paper and a pair of scissors can be handy to learn the technique of creating a symmetrical vessel.
